Maggie’s journey to instructional design was anything but linear. With a master’s degree in education and years of teaching abroad, she thrived on creating lesson plans but felt unfulfilled by traditional teaching in the States.
After a detour into sales, she discovered instructional design—a perfect blend of her passions for education and technology. However, breaking into the field solo proved daunting. That’s when she turned to the ID Bootcamp, which equipped her with the skills, confidence, and portfolio to land her dream role.
After months of crafting her skills and immesring herself in applying ID principles, Maggie designed a standout portfolio with a cohesive design and polished projects. The recurring brick motif not only informs the site's color palatte and subtle visuals, but is used to highlight her ability to design and create solutions "from blueprint to build" as the focal point of her hero section.
Her flagship project—“Pawsitive Practices for Successful Sessions”—crafted with Articulate Storyline for a real client, Pawsitive Friendships. Using engaging interactions and a rubric-based evaluation approach, she created an eLearning module to train volunteers in managing therapy dog sessions, showcasing her ability to blend creativity with practical instructional design.
Maggie applied to 100 jobs in just over two months, leaning on the bootcamp’s interview course to ace every question. Her portfolio—boosted by a second project—landed her a role at True Group, supporting high-profile clients like McDonald’s. Six weeks in, she’s storyboarding e-learning and co-facilitating trainings, thriving thanks to the bootcamp’s foundation.

"Before joining the Instructional Design Portfolio Bootcamp, I felt lost in my career. My journey had been anything but linear—I started in tourism, transitioned into teaching abroad, and later earned a master’s in education. But after a short stint teaching in the U.S., I realized it wasn’t the right fit. I explored online teaching and contract work, yet I struggled to see a clear path forward. Instructional design intrigued me, but I had no idea where to start or how to build a portfolio that would make me stand out.
The bootcamp provided exactly what I needed—a structured approach to building a portfolio with hands-on projects and expert feedback. The combination of self-paced learning and live support made all the difference. I wasn’t just watching tutorials; I was applying new skills in real-world scenarios.
The feedback I received helped me refine my work and gave me the confidence to present my projects professionally. Most importantly, the community was incredibly supportive. Connecting with others on the same journey made the process feel less overwhelming and more achievable.
Now, I can confidently say that this program transformed my career prospects. I went from feeling unsure about my next steps to having a polished portfolio that truly represents my skills. Thanks to the bootcamp, I’ve landed opportunities I never thought possible, and I finally feel like I’m on the right path. If you’re considering instructional design but don’t know where to start, this program will give you the guidance, structure, and confidence to make it happen."
